Schwartz WTTP Expansion
Schwartz Facility Expanding
A recently completed $7.5 million Phase 1 expansion of the J. Lambert Schwartz Wastewater Treatment Facility to 14.4 mgd improves Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority’s ability to serve customers on the southern end of the Grand Strand.
The $12 million Phase 2 expansion to 19.4 mgd is in progress. The facility presently treats 12.5 million gallons of wastewater daily. When expansion phases are completed, the plant will be able to treat 22.5 million gallons a day. The facility serves 35,000 customers on the southern Grand Strand. Among the communities served by the Schwartz plant are Burgess, East Conway, the former Air Force Base properties, Garden City, Socastee, Surfside, and the Waccamaw Pottery area.
The project will require two years to complete. The cost is being built into the existing growth formula for the Authority, and no new rate hikes will be necessary, says GSWSA officials.
