REPAIRS CREW LEADER

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult semi-skilled and skilled work leading and participating in the work of a water and sewer maintenance crew; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over subordinate crew members.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Leads the work of crew members in the relocation, repair and/or maintenance of water and sewer lines and related facilities such as fire hydrants, meters and meter pits;
Performs or assists in performing maintenance and repair tasks on any infrastructure associated with water and sewer;
Assists with work orders for water and sewer taps;
Obtains necessary utility line locates, places safety equipment as per SCDOT for road work, digs holes, locates valves and taps into line;
Bores under roadways; make new bores;
Repairs and maintains meters; rearranges valves, relocates meters and changes out meters;
Installs fire hydrants and meter pits;
Prepares work reports and instructs daily work of crew members;
Develops crew members’ six-month work plans and completes evaluations;
Assists Repairs Manager with training activities of department and documentation of safety observations;
Discusses job requirements with and receives detailed instructions from supervisor;
Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of water and sewer line repair and maintenance practices; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; general knowledge and understanding of the importance of safety to the overall success of the Authority (i.e. safety culture awareness) and appreciation for disciplined conduct of operations (work authorization process, stop work authority, etc.); ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, and the general public; ability to maintain records and enter relevant data entry for repairs; ability to read and interpret blue prints, as-builts and construction plans; ability to lead the work of others; ability to understand and follow work orders and prepare reports; ability to operate trucks and repair equipment; ability to perform tasks for extended periods, often under unfavorable conditions; ability to communicate verbally and audibly; ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer for multiple hours each day; ability to use close vision; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to visit project sites where the ability to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl is needed; ability to move and traverse work sites on unpaved streets, uneven ground and cluttered work areas; ability to work in all weather and environmental conditions including elevated noise levels, rain, sleet, snow and extreme temperatures; and ability to work and make visual observations day and night; ability to bend, reach, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk; ability to drive a vehicle daily; and ability to use appropriate safety equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 4 years of experience in water and sewer line maintenance or construction work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Class A CDL with air brakes issued by the State of South Carolina.

CAREER PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES:
Title advancements and/or promotions to various positions depend on an individual’s job performance, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience and other special requirements. There is no guarantee of career progression to these or any other positions at the Authority.
• Repairs Supervisor: $69,680.00+
• Repairs Manager: $96,907.20+

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE REPAIRS DEPARTMENT. PAY RATE IS $25.25 TO $37.88 PER HOUR. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION MAY BE CONSIDERED, BUT IF SELECTED THEY WOULD BE PAID ONE PAY GRADE BELOW THE MINIMUM UNTIL THEY SATISFY THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.
