GSWSA Reports Two Wastewater Spills in Horry County

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., Aug. 13, 2026 — Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority (GSWSA) announced today that two wastewater spills occurred in Horry County this month as a result of separate pipeline failures.
The first wastewater spill occurred on Sunday, Aug. 2, on Southern Trail, approximately 1,100 feet north of the intersection of Southern Trail and Gardner Lacy Road in Myrtle Beach. The wastewater flowed from the failure site into a stormwater pond beside Southern Trail.
A second wastewater spill occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 12, on Forestbrook Road, approximately 900 feet southeast of the intersection of Forestbrook Road and Whatuthink Road in Myrtle Beach. Wastewater flowed from the failure site into a roadside ditch that drains to a stormwater pond behind 2495 Forestbrook Road.
Both pipeline failures were isolated, and repairs were completed. Mitigation efforts to restore the affected areas were initiated. Drinking water quality was not adversely affected by either incident. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) was notified of the events.
