CONSTRUCTION CREW LEADER
Work Order Crew

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult semi-skilled and skilled work leading and participating in the work of a water and sewer installation crew. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over subordinate crew members.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Assists and leads the work of two to four skilled and unskilled workers installing pipes, pump stations, taps, meters, etc.;
Installs water and sewer lines, wet taps, bores under roads, small taps, individual grinder pump stations, fire hydrants, and valves;
Draws as-builts for completed projects;
Performs pressure testing on chlorinated lines that are installed to ensure they meet the GSWSA specifications;
Prepares new water line systems for bacteriological sampling and testing;
Excavates construction site in compliance with SCDOT and HCPW standards for work within public right of ways;
Maintains all safety standards according to federal, state and county regulations;
Repairs roads and ditches as required by HCPW & SCDOT;
Operates heavy equipment including a rubber tire back hoe, track hoe, bull dozier, motor grader, trencher and loader;
Moves heavy equipment from each job site;
Ensures all heavy equipment is properly maintained;
Arranges meetings with other utilities on job sites for underground utility locating and marking;
Coordinates on-site visits with customers and/or contractors for system installation;
Works with New Services Department for placement of new water and sewer services and encroachment permitting from roadway agencies;
Coordinates electrical placement prior to tank installation;
Completes work orders as needed, including record keeping using computer programs, such as AS400;
Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of water and sewer line installation; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; ability to lead the work of others; ability to understand and follow work orders and prepare reports; ability to operate trucks and repair equipment; ability to perform tasks for extended periods, often under unfavorable conditions; ability to keep records of work: documenting charges, preparing activity sheets for billing purposes; ability to bid materials and follow purchasing process through in-house inventory of supplies, ability to understand and read plans; ability to perform strenuous manual labor under all weather conditions in the field; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 5 years’ experience in water and sewer line installation or construction work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement issued by state of residence.

• Construction Supervisor - $69,680.00+

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE CONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION MAY BE CONSIDERED, BUT IF SELECTED THEY WOULD BE PAID ONE PAY GRADE BELOW THE MINIMUM UNTIL THEY SATISFY THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. THE PAY RANGE IS $25.25 - $37.88 PER HOUR. DEADLINE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATION IS 5:00 P.M., THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2026.
