FLEET MECHANIC
Agricultural Operations
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs intermediate semi-skilled and skilled work at the in the Agricultural Operations department. Maintains vehicles and heavy equipment and assists in the disposal of sludge, growing, cutting and delivery of sod. Does other related work as required.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Follows all safety procedures and purchasing policies;
Maintains and repairs all department vehicles and equipment, keeping them in proper operating condition;
Operates trucks, tractors, backhoes, dozier, and other related equipment;
Works as a member of a crew cutting sod, hauling sod, mowing sod as needed;
Assists in operation of pumps, pivots, irrigation equipment, day tanks, and sludge pumping equipment as needed for proper operation;
Operates lawn mowers and other hand tools as required;
Performs general field maintenance tasks;
Performs other related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in tree, turf and row crop farm operations; general knowledge of the use of common hand and power tools; general knowledge of the safe use, operation and maintenance of common automotive, large trucks and mechanical equipment; ability to operate backhoe and other construction equipment; ability to follow written and oral directions; ability to perform manual and semi-skilled labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time, twist, sit, kneel, crawl, squat and walk; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid Class A CDL according to state of residence with air brake and tanker endorsements and no transmission or hauling restrictions. May also be required to obtain a valid pesticide applicator license for the State of South Carolina.
THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT. RATE OF PAY IS $23.78 - $35.67 PER HOUR. DEADLINE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS 5:00 P.M. ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2025.
