INSTRUMENTATION/ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant or related facilities. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

TYPICAL TASKS:
Installs, calibrates and repairs analytical and chemical feed instrumentation;
Diagnoses and corrects breakdowns of electromechanical and electronic controls in lift stations, wells and treatment plants;
Maintains single and three phase power distribution systems with voltages of 240, 460 and 4160;
Builds, modifies and installs controls on lift stations, wells and treatment plants;
Installs and maintains SCADA data communications network including wired and RF radio data systems;
Installs new and upgrades wiring on plants, well houses and pump stations;
Maintains emergency generator and transfer switch equipment;
Performs preventive maintenance on equipment controls and communication equipment;
Installs SCADA units and flow meters; repairs breakdowns and makes modifications as needed;
Maintains schematics for controls and phases equipment to power source or generator as equipment is brought on line;
Programs and maintain Modicon and Allen Bradley PLC’s using Schneider Electric Pro-Works 32 and Control Expert for Modicon units, and RS Logix 500 and Studio 5000 for Allen Bradley equipment;
Installs and maintains programmable controllers and related SCADA and associated equipment;
Installs variable frequency drives (VFD) of various manufacturers; diagnoses, repairs and maintains VFD’s as required;
Responds to after-hours/weekend and holiday service calls on a rotating basis and works extended hours as needed during emergencies;
Performs related tasks as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical trade; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with electrical maintenance operations and ability to observe and enforce appropriate safety precautions; extensive troubleshooting and repair skills relative to automated electrical systems consisting of relays, PLC and analytical instrumentation and other related control system components; skilled in the use and care of bench and hand tools, machines and equipment of the electrical trade; ability to work from sketches, blueprints or schematics and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; ability to maintain PLC and computer equipment; ability to work at heights on elevated structures; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to move and traverse obstacles at work sites; ability to perform manual labor under all weather and environmental conditions; ability to work safely and make visual and audible observations day and night; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to walk, sit and stand sometimes for extended periods of time; ability to reach, bend, climb ladders, twist, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, squat, pull and push; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 2 years of experience in electrical and electronic installation and maintenance in similar facilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Class “B” CDL with air brake endorsement issued by the State of South Carolina.

CAREER PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES:
Title advancements and/or promotions to various positions depend on an individual’s job performance, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience and other special requirements. There is no guarantee of career progression to these or any other positions at the Authority.
• Senior Instrumentation/Electrical Technician – $27.23+ per hour
• Instrumentation/Electrical Crew Leader – $30.50+ per hour


THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION MAY BE CONSIDERED, BUT IF SELECTED THEY WOULD BE PAID ONE PAY GRADE BELOW THE MINIMUM UNTIL THEY SATISFY THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. SALARY RANGE IS $52,520.00 - $78,790.40. DEADLINE OF RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2025 AT 5:00 P.M.
