INSTRUMENTATION/ELECTRICAL SUPERINTENDENT
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Performs difficult technical, intermediate administrative and skilled work supervising and participating in the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers engaged in electrical, PLC and electronic maintenance and repair work at the water and wastewater plants and field related facilities. Does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over assigned personnel.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Assigns, schedules, directs and inspects the work of personnel engaged in servicing, maintaining, repairing and installing electrical and electronic equipment and instruments used in water and wastewater treatment, lift stations, wells, storage tanks and reservoirs;
Recommends, designs and installs new instrumentation controls and SCADA systems;
Installs and maintains two-way radio system;
Utilizes and enhances self-development skills to acquire additional expertise and technical knowledge involving current and future technology methods;
Establishes and schedules preventive maintenance programs;
Plans and schedules plant equipment repairs;
Reviews and/or prepares work orders and determines staffing, material and equipment requirements;
Orders necessary supplies, materials and parts;
Calibrates and repairs analytical and chemical feed instrumentation;
Keeps records and makes detailed reports in GSWSA’s CMMS software;
Develops and implements KRAs for section;
Maintains computer-controlled SCADA system;
Programs and maintain Modicon and Allen Bradley PLC’s using Schneider Electric Pro-Works 32 and Control Expert for Modicon units, and RS Logix 500 and Studio 5000 for Allen Bradley equipment;
Provide technical support and programming services to all departments in regards to SCADA system;
Maintains and modifies SCADA computer terminals utilizing iFix SCADA development software as required when new equipment is added or when changes are required to accommodate operational changes as they occur;
Adds new remote sites to SCADA system as required;
Maintains all aspects of SCADA data communications network hardware including RF radio networks, ethernet, fiber optics or other communications hardware and protocols;
Repairs and calibrates interfacing units;
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs electrical control and power distribution systems and solid state electronic control equipment;
Maintains and calibrates electronic metering and process control monitoring systems;
Installs and maintains programmable controllers and interfacing equipment;
Trains personnel on GSWSA’s operational technology systems and appropriate safety measures.
Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical trade; thorough knowledge of occupational hazards associated with electrical maintenance operations and ability to observe and enforce safety precautions; skill in the use and care of bench and hand tools, machine and equipment of the electrical trade; ability to work from sketches, blueprint and schematics and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with associates; ability to schedule and coordinate work assignments for field personnel; ability to maintain PLC and related equipment; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time; ability to move and traverse obstacles at work sites; ability to perform manual labor under all weather and environmental conditions; ability to work safely and make visual and audible observations day and night; ability to lift 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; ability to walk, sit and stand sometimes for extended periods of time; ability to reach, bend, climb ladders, twist, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, squat, pull and push; and ability to drive a vehicle daily.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and supplemental trade and service school courses and 6 years of extensive experience in electric and electronic equipment design, repair and maintenance work in similar facilities including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid driver’s license according to state of residence. Possession of a South Carolina State Electrical license.

THIS POSITION IS OPEN IN THE OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION MAY BE CONSIDERED, BUT IF SELECTED THEY WOULD BE PAID BELOW THE MINIMUM UNTIL THEY SATISFY THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.
